Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. "Weak ringgit cause of high prices"

"The reducation in fuel prices has not had an impact on the public because of the weakening ringgit against the high cost of imports. This was one of the reaons why the prices of goods remained high despite reduced fuel prices. Transport costs make up only about 10 per cent of the total. The actual benefit is very, very small. We do not like to regulate business and the market, but the market cannot regulate itself".
